2014 Goals

Last year was the first year I started making goals. They were a few simple goals but they were almost too specific that I got very discouraged very quickly. This year my goals fell under spiritual, health, and characteristics. One goal I didn't include was photography. This year my one photography goal is to complete the Project 52. With completing that project I expect to learn a lot and hopefully by the end be shooting on a Canon EOS 60D (Fingers crossed! ;) )  First, Please watch this video. It is so inspirational and will change the way you think about the situations in your life.

Now for my goals :)

Spiritual Goals
·         Prayer Journal
·         Daily Devotions
·         Continual Prayer
Health Goals
·         Drink More Water
·         GET OFF MY BUM (AKA workout in some manner)
Characteristic Goals
·         Listen more, Speak Less                                         Proverbs 18:2 Fools find no pleasure in understanding but delight in airing their own opinions.
·         Bossiness is not cool. Just because I know what they should be doing ;) doesnt mean I need to say it out loud.
·         Lose the air headed girl I am around teens.
·         Show humbleness
·         Respect
·         Quiet Spirit
·         Servants Heart - Whatever you do, do your work heartily, as for the Lord rather than for men. – Colossians 3:23
·         Consider others over myself   1 Corinthians 13:1-13 if I speak in the tongues of men and of angels, but have not love, I am a noisy gong or a clanging cymbal. And if I have prophetic powers, and understand all mysteries and all knowledge, and if I have all faith, so as to remove mountains, but have not love, I am nothing. If I give away all I have, and if I deliver up my body to be burned, but have not love, I gain nothing. Love is patient and kind; love does not envy or boast; it is not arrogant or rude. It does not insist on its own way; it is not irritable or resentful;

DIY Holiday Photoboot

My sister and I set up our own little photo booth! There are many ways to go about doing this. For a small family gathering or a birthday party with a few friends this can be put together via the instructions below. For something more extravagant or with more guests this would have to be adapted. This is a down to earth, simple approach.

  • Camera with flash and self timer
  • Tripod
  • White Wall
  • Photoprops (Free printables below)
  • Popsicle Sticks, dowels, or straws

These are not step by step instructions. Rather, guidelines. You are going to need to find a white wall in your home. The lighting is not very important as we will be using flash. However, natural light is better so if you do have it you can try and use it. Set up your camera on a tripod at about shoulder level.  Play around with the flash until you get what you want. On my camera we just set up the regular fill flash. Set your 10 second camera timer.  For me, I have to set that timer every time. I think if you had instructions right there is wouldn't be hard at a small birthday party or everyone can do it at once. For a larger gathering there are other options that will be more convenient!

Free Props

For these props I just printed them on printer paper  then hot glued popsicle sticks to them. I suggest using card stock or thicker paper because the props will support themselves better.

Christmas Gifts:: Letters For When:: Friend Edition

Hello Friends!
So far I have just started brainstorming ideas for Christmas gifts. I will be starting writing these after I finish this blog post most likely.

First of all! I got this idea from This Girl!
She got the idea from pinterest..

We will see how far I get but I would like to write all the below letters to my "little sisters" from youth group and my best friends/friends.

 Open When...
You dont feel Loved
You don't feel like you are enough
You are bored
You miss me
You dont feel like you fit in
You feel far from God
You need to know how Beautiful you are
 Nothing is going right

Quarter 2 Week 1 :: What Worked, What Didnt

  • Kahn Academy. It is amazing. Period. https://www.khanacademy.org/ It is completely free. You can use it if you are in elementary school or if you are in college.  When you sign up there is a math pretest. If you are in College you may want to skip this as it is stuff I would believe you already know. However, if you wish to brush up on basics and some algebra go ahead. They have the videos for basic 1st-8th grade in Math and Science and then there are Algebra, Pre-Calc, Calculus, Geometry, Chemistry, Biology, World History, American Civics, Microeconomics, etc.
  • Using a Planner. I have my courses color-coded so I write assignments in certain colors. It works wonders to keep me on task!

  • Lets see... Not studying.
  • Just reading the textbook and not looking for outside resources.
  •  Cramming.
Disclaimer: I was in no way paid to write this post. I am in no way affiliated with Kahn Academy. All Opinions are my own!

I havent really taken out a sketch book and just drawn. Here is a sketch I did based on a tutorial from pinterest. After I had sketched it looked in need of some paint. I am in LOVE with watercolors..

School Organization Series:: School Binder

Im back for the second part in this series! Today im going to cover binder organization. I dont have as many tips as I did for the planner. This is more just showing you how I set up my binder. There are many ways people choose to set up a binder. Some choose to use folders or a notebook rather than a binder. I use a binder AND a notebook.
I store the tabs I use to mark pages in my textbook and some mechanical pencils. I know exactly where it is so it doesn't get lost in my book bag or pencil pouch.
All this fits in that little pocket.
Tabs will save your life. Without them there is *like* no organization at all.
These will keep your binder so much more organized and you will be able to find assignments much easier. I recommend buying one of these for your binder:

By this I mean take those old papers and place them in your past assignments binder (oh you don't have one.. am I a nerd? )  I am so particular that I will sometimes write my notes in my notebook and then type them up (you really don't have to do this)

I three hole punch my papers. If they have multiple pages I use a stapler and staple the top left corner so it stays neat and together.

Heart2Heart Your Attitude

In recent weeks I have learned how my attitude effects others. It not only changes the way I treat them but the response they give to me. It can change a child having a breakdown to them coming back and participating again. It means I get to make these memories with people I couldn't before. It means I can help them. It means they feel comfortable to come to me and talk. It means I become more caring. It means im showing love.

Your own attitude in your heart can be that of love and even someone who you find very annoying, they will see that you are taking that extra step to be kind. Most people do not act the way they do for no reason. There is usually something hurting them. Search deeper than just what it looks on the outside. You don't know whats going on in someones life at this very moment. You don't know if their parents are fighting and going through a divorce. You don't know if they are struggling with depression and self image. You don't know their life story. The best thing you can do is be there and show love. Because love overcomes the greatest obstacles. I challenge you to change your attitude to those round you. Look past their painful words. Look to their heart and love them.
