How To Get an A :: What I did Week 3

Hello loves!
      This week was challenging. Specifically yesterday and today. I had some big family things happen and it just wreaked havoc on my schoolwork. I did not complete my schoolwork yesterday because of said family things (but they were legitimate reasons to miss school.) Today I made up the work quickly but my brain is scattered which is understandable. However, from Monday-Wednesday was pretty good but it was just a busy week family wise and I was definitely mentally distracted. Something, however, that did help me this week with history notes was outlining. Rather than my usual note-taking style I took notes in an outline form and that helped the organization of my brain with what was connected and it helped it go quicker.

 Last Weeks Goals:
         Bed at 9:30-  Um.. Well... Again the circumstances not ideal so it didn't happen last night or        Tuesday night. Wednesday and Monday it was pretty close though. (as in 9:45ish)

   Practice Piano everyday for 30 minutes- This happened Monday-Wednesday. Once again because of said issues above it didn't happen yesterday but it could possibly happen today.
          Workout  Every day - I worked out on Tuesday and Wednesday.. Does that count?

This Weeks Goals:
     Same as last week! I didn't really get to complete my goals and I feel they are important enough to repeat and get it down to a habit and routine.

How to Get an A:: Week 2

Hello loves!
      This week was interesting. Definitely a little more challenging as far as motivation goes and I was busier so I had to do some of my schoolwork out.  I took it as it came though and it really wasn't bad. I need to work on having motivation after I finish my schoolwork though. I will do my schoolwork and everything but then I don't feel like practicing piano, working out, etc. I think part of that this week was getting to bed too late though and then waking up earlier.

      This week the biggest thing that helped me was a you-tube video lesson on annotating text. I was really struggling with that prior to this video. I didn't know what was important and I wasn't sure what questions to ask as I read.  Annotating Text Lesson

Next Week's Goals:
Bed at 9:30 - This sounds really early. (and some nights wont happen because I have activities and work.) I ,however, seem to need 9 or 10 hours of sleep a night in order to feel rested. I feel sick and I am super grumpy if I don't get enough sleep (im not the only one right??) Besides I have a hard time staying awake..

Practice Piano everyday for 30 minutes - I will set a timer and play til it goes off. 30 minutes it not that much time - I definitely have time for that. 

Workout  Every day- On the days I work - I "condition" with the girls I coach. Or after work I go and do Zumba or workout. On the other days I would like to workout in the afternoon. At this time in my life, morning workouts are not for me!

How to Get an A:: Week 1

Well its been a while! Hello again. This is something I attempted to do last year and lets just say... I posted one time while I was in school. My goal.. *ahem*... is to post at the end of every week. I will post what I have been doing that week, what is working, what is not, how I am keeping up with my notes, etc. I started school this past Tuesday (September 2nd). 11th grade woot woot! :D 

I took color coded notes in each of my classes this week.   I still need to work on summarizing information and not writing complete sentences right out of my book.
In my English class I am active reading. If you don't know what this is - it is basically a comprehension tool where you highlight, take notes, and write questions in the margins.

Along with my notes I have a table of contents at the beginning of each of my notebooks.

2014 Goals

    Last year was the first year I started making goals. They were a few simple goals but they were almost too specific that I got very discouraged very quickly. This year my goals fell under spiritual, health, and characteristics. One goal I didn't include was photography. This year my one photography goal is to complete the Project 52. With completing that project I expect to learn a lot and hopefully by the end be shooting on a Canon EOS 60D (Fingers crossed! ;) )  First, Please watch this video. It is so inspirational and will change the way you think about the situations in your life.

DIY Holiday Photoboot

      My sister and I set up our own little photo booth! There are many ways to go about doing this. For a small family gathering or a birthday party with a few friends this can be put together via the instructions below. For something more extravagant or with more guests this would have to be adapted. This is a down to earth, simple approach.


  • Camera with flash and self timer
  • Tripod
  • White Wall
  • Photoprops (Free printables below) 
  • Popsicle Sticks, dowels, or straws


     These are not step by step instructions. Rather, guidelines. You are going to need to find a white wall in your home. The lighting is not very important as we will be using flash. However, natural light is better so if you do have it you can try and use it. Set up your camera on a tripod at about shoulder level.  Play around with the flash until you get what you want. On my camera we just set up the regular fill flash. Set your 10 second camera timer.  For me, I have to set that timer every time. I think if you had instructions right there is wouldn't be hard at a small birthday party or everyone can do it at once. For a larger gathering there are other options that will be more convenient!

Free Props

For these props I just printed them on printer paper  then hot glued popsicle sticks to them. I suggest using card stock or thicker paper because the props will support themselves better.

So far I have just started brainstorming ideas for Christmas gifts. I will be starting writing these after I finish this blog post most likely.

Quarter 2 Week 1 :: What Worked, What Didnt

  • Kahn Academy. It is amazing. Period. https://www.khanacademy.org/ It is completely free. You can use it if you are in elementary school or if you are in college.  When you sign up there is a math pretest. If you are in College you may want to skip this as it is stuff I would believe you already know. However, if you wish to brush up on basics and some algebra go ahead. They have the videos for basic 1st-8th grade in Math and Science and then there are Algebra, Pre-Calc, Calculus, Geometry, Chemistry, Biology, World History, American Civics, Microeconomics, etc.
  • Using a Planner. I have my courses color-coded so I write assignments in certain colors. It works wonders to keep me on task!

  • Lets see... Not studying. 
  • Just reading the textbook and not looking for outside resources.
  •  Cramming.
